David Beckham was looking uncharacteristically unkempt when he took to the field for a spot of training with his new Real Madrid team-mates. The England-skipper, who is currently touring the Far East with his new club, was taking part in a practise session in Kunming, China.
But the humid temperatures proved a little too much for his twin pony tails, which kept coming undone. The hunky athlete eventually gave up on his trendy coiffeur, and took to the field with his hair loose.
As a result his wild locks kept getting in his eyes. "He must have tried eight times to adjust his ponytails, but just couldn't get them right." said one fan.
Having to endure the rigours of a decidedly bad hair day didn't stop Becks from putting in a solid performance, however, as 35,000 fans watched Real's first XI beat their second team 3-1.
Back in the UK, meanwhile, the man behind another of David's famous fashion statements has become embroiled in a row with Real Madrid. Tattoo artist Louis Molloy, who designed the guardian angel tattoo on Becks' back, was outraged when he discovered that the club wanted to use his design for marketing purposes. "I've had a legal letter written and sent to them informing them I own the copyright," declared the 40-year-old.
In the past Louis, who has created five tattoos for David, has refused a number of offers for the angel design. "During the 2002 World Cup a Japanese firm offered me more than £100,000 to use it as a mobile phone screensaver and to print it on T-shirts," he revealed. "But I said no as I'd always been under the impression that David might want to use it commercially first."
