Sex And The City's Carrie Bradshaw will soon be swept off her feet by the Mr Big of dance, as legendary ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov is to join the cast of the series.
The Russian star will play a foreign artist called Alexander Petrovsky, who meets and falls in love with Carrie. He will be featured in the final eight episodes of the series, meaning that our heroine's other suitors will have some serious competition on their hands. "He has such a presence that Carrie gets bigger, too," said Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays the central character.
It took a while to convince Mikhail to join the show and Sarah admits it was "a long courtship". The 55-year-old now says he is looking forward to taking on the role, however. "I think it's about time to do something my children can't watch," he joked.
It's not the first time he has turned his hand to acting, as he received an Oscar nomination for 1977's Turning Point and also won critical plaudits for his appearance opposite Gregory Hines in White Nights.
The new storyline seems to be a case of art imitating life, as Candace Bushnell, who was the inspiration for Carrie's character, recently married ballet star Charles Askegard in real life.
