While Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to end the "will he, won't he?" speculation about his plans to enter the upcoming race for California governor, another high-profile candidate has announced a surprise bid.
Hustler magazine mogul Larry Flynt, immortalised by Woody Harrelson in the film version of his life story in 1996, has put his name on the ballot.
The publisher, who has been in a wheelchair since an assassination attempt left him paralysed, said he did not believe his history as a porn king would affect his ability to serve. "I don't think that the business I am in has anything to do with being a good governor," he said.
The 61-year-old millionaire's platform includes studying the legalisation of prostitution, granting amnesty to illegal immigrants currently in California and expanding the gaming industry before taxing casino revenues to wipe out the budget deficit.
"California is the most progressive state in the union," said Larry. "I think its citizens would welcome having a smut peddler who cares as their governor."
Meanwhile, Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he will reveal all on Wednesday, just before making an appearance on the Jay Leno show.
