EastEnders tough-guy Steve McFadden found himself in a real-life confrontation when a gang of youths began taunting him at his home in London.
The 44-year-old actor decided to see off the mob, but when he went to remonstrate with them, he was attacked. "He was outnumbered by the youths, there were at least six," said one eye-witness. "They surrounded him and at one point a couple of them pinned his hands behind his back while others pushed him onto a car bonnet."
Steve, who plays hardman Phil Mitchell in the BBC soap, managed to break free of his assailants, however, and gave chase. "He must be a brave man because, even though it was six against one, when he got back on his feet he started chasing one of the youths."
Apparently the gang had subjected Steve and his girlfriend Lucy Benjamin to over two months of abuse. The actor eventually lost his patience when his five-year-old daughter, Teona, heard the shouting from outside the house and became upset.
Lucy meanwhile called the police as she was fearful her partner would be beaten up. Scotland Yard officers say they are looking into the incident and are confident of catching the mob.
