Footie ace David Beckham has been showing his romantic side by treating his wife to an expensive dinner at the Ritz hotel in Madrid.

The England skipper splashed out £1,200 on a private dining area in the hotel's exclusive Goya restaurant. Scented candles and orchids decorated the room, as the couple enjoyed a few hours away from their hectic careers.

Their children Romeo and Brooklyn were left with minders for the evening while the couple tucked into a meal cooked by one of Spain's top chefs, Javier Aldea. David opted for a starter of veal medallions followed by oven roast lamb, while his wife chose lobster and wild mushroom risotto.

"Victoria looked delighted," said a source at the hotel. "Everyone thought it must be their wedding anniversary or Victoria's birthday, but David just wanted a romantic night."

The couple's dinner date comes after Becks was pictured on a night out with his personal assistant Rebecca Loos. He and Victoria have since denied reports that they've been having marriage difficulties, and onlookers say they looked very much in love on their night out.

And there has also been some good news for England soccer fans, as David has returned to training after injuring his foot on Saturday. It had been feared that the he would not be fit for England's clash with Turkey on October 11, but it appears the star player is already well on the road to recovery.
