David Beckham's high profile partnership with wife Victoria has taken on yet another dimension. The star footballer has parted company with SFX Sports Group and joined up with his famous spouse's manager, Spice Girls creator Simon Fuller.
Simon, who was also the mind behind Pop Idol, will be taking over the England captain's off-field marketing deals. David will continue to work with SFX representative Tony Stephens, however, who will manage the sporting side of things.
According to one insider, his glamorous wife Posh had a hand in the switch. "Victoria has convinced David that Fuller is best for both of them," a source from Simon's company, 19, told a British newspaper.
However, as the Real Madrid star announced the news, he also revealed he'll be focusing on football – not advertising contracts – in the near future.
"(David) has decided… that he will be focusing entirely on football and will not be taking on any new commercial activities in the short term, except as part of his club commitments," said a Beckham spokesperson. "He will continue to work for his current sponsors and Tony Stephens will continue to look after his football affairs."
Meanwhile, David's headline-making confrontation during Saturday's England-Turkey match has put Turkish player Alpay Ozalan's international career in jeopardy. After a on-field bust up between Alpay and Becks led to a full-scale row involving 50 players during half-time, Turkey coach Senol Gunes remarked: "Alpay cannot play in the Turkish national team under these circumstances. We have to abandon a player who did wrong."
