Since her marriage to Paul McCartney, Heather Mills has added several interests close to the heart of the Beatle's late wife to those she champions herself. It is an approach which has not always been met with enthusiasm by the couple's offspring.
Now the former model-turned-antilandmines activist has gone one step further by teaming up with animal rights organisation PETA. Paul's first wife was one of the charity's most ardent supporters, and a committed activist on its behalf. Upon Linda's death from breast cancer in 1998, her daughter, the fashion designer Stella McCartney, took up the baton and has since lobbied energetically for the group's causes.
Heather is to appear on the cover of a PETA publication listing over 500 comapnies which have promised never to test ingredients or finished products on animals. "We approached Ms Mills McCartney over the summer to support the guide," said a spokesperson for the organisation. "She gave us an exclusive photograph, and this endorsement marks her first public support for our animal rights campaigns."
Relations between Stella and her stepmother, who is expecting her first child next month, have apparently been strained since the outset. And Heather's championing of this particular cause is seen as an indication of her desire to futher step into the shoes of her predecessor.
