The £9,000-per ticket Concorde made its final flight on Friday, with a star-studded passenger list appropriate to the world's most glamorous mode of transportation.
Dynasty star Joan Collins and her husband Percy Gibson led the roster of celebrities taking a seat one of the high-speed aircraft's final voyages, flying from New York to London. Calling the end of the plane's era "tragic", the actress added: "The first time I ever flew Concorde was a bit of a white-knuckle ride. I am more used to it now. It's so wonderful to make the journey in three and a half hours."
Model Jodie Kidd was also on board the New York flight, which was one of three Concordes – another flew from Edinburgh and a third completed a loop over the Atlantic – taking to the skies on the craft's final day. "I always really love the rush of takeoff," she said. "I am just a speed freak."
Another history-making passenger, British broadcaster Sir David Frost – who has flown the Concorde hundreds of times – confessed he would miss the jet-set symbol. "You can be in London at ten o'clock, and in New York at ten o'clock," he remarked. "I have never found another way of being in two places at once."
Concorde first took off in 1969, making its first commercial flight seven years later. The exclusive 100-passenger craft, which cut the time of a transatlantic voyage in half, soon became an icon of the rich and famous, boasting high-profile passengers from supermodels to the Queen.
