The people of Edinburgh would be forgiven for feeling a little star-struck today, as a host of celebs jet in for the MTV Europe Music Awards. The "names" began arriving on Wednesday, as preparations for the biggest party of the year got underway.
Justin Timberlake was the first to make his presence felt in Scotland's first city. The hunky crooner delighted revellers at an Edinburgh nightclub on Wednesday by delivering an impromptu DJ set.
Other show biz personalities already enjoying Scottish hospitality include Beyonce, Pink, Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie. And action man Vin Diesel has been spotted having a last-minute kilt fitting on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
Christina Aguilera will be playing hostess at the show, which is expected to generate £4 million in revenue for the city.
Every hotel in town is booked out and organisers have laid on a fleet of 120 limousines to ferry stars to and from the venue. The vast majority of tickets went to music industry guests, while the 2,000 that went on general sale sold out in 14 minutes.
Edinburgh beat off competition from Copenhagen, Belfast and Manchester to host the prize-giving, which will be broadcast all over the world. There will also be an open-air concert featuring Jane's Addiction, The Chemical Brothers and The Flaming Lips.
"Having one billion people tuning in to watch Edinburgh and Scotland at its best is a fantastic opportunity," said First Minister Jack McConnell.
