The inimitable Christina Aguilera has earned a reputation for wearing outrageous outfits. And fans who came along to see her present the MTV Awards in Edinburgh on Thursday weren't disappointed, as she arrived on the stage wearing a nun's habit and promptly broke into her raunchy hit single Dirrty.
Once she was a few bars into the track, Christina ripped off the ecclesiastical gowns to reveal leather chaps and a top slashed to the navel. "This is my show and if anyone's going to be getting the award for showing the most skin, it's me," declared the singer, who donned a series of risqué ensembles over the course of the evening. Her co-host at the event, hunky actor Vin Diesel, also made quite an impression by sporting a kilt.
The XXX star declined to reveal whether he was wearing the garment in the traditional Scottish manner, however. "The big question is whether I'm going commando or not," he joked. "I'll let you guess."
Pop diva Beyonce Knowles, who gave a show-stopping performance of her new single Baby Boy, took home gongs for best song and best R&B artist. Earlier in the day the 22-year-old also left her mark on the local branch of Harvey Nichols, where she spent £20,000 on clothes, shoes and jewellery.
It was Justin Timberlake who won the most awards, however, staving off competition in the best male artist, best album and best pop artist categories. "I feel really, really blessed as I have worked so hard on this album," said the handsome singer. "If I could have had a picture perfect night, it could not have been better than this."
Other big names who performed at the show included Kylie Minogue, Pink and Jamaican rapper Sean Paul. And there was no shortage of A-list talent in the audience, as Angelina Jolie, Minnie Driver and Jennifer Lopez were all in attendance.
