Entertainer Cilla Black spent nearly two decades matchmaking on the hit show Blind Date, and now she says she's ready to do a little romancing herself.

The 60-year-old star, who was devastated by the death of her husband Bobby from cancer four years ago, admits she's entered the dating game, stepping out with a man she'd met in Barbados. However, there was no return engagement after the first date, as her best friend, presenter Dale Winton, vetoed the suitor.

"Dale hated him and he had to go," Cilla told Sainsbury's magazine. "I met him through friends and he spoke lovely. If you closed your eyes, you just wanted him to talk forever. But Dale met him and I knew all night what he thought. He got in the car and said, 'Cilla, I hate him.'"

She's even dubbed her close pals – Dale, Christopher Biggins and Lily Savage star Paul O'Grady – "The Committee", because any potential mate must get their seal of approval. And another friend, Joan Collins, also has been giving Cilla some free advice. "She gives me tips on men, like 'Never go for a man with grey chest hair'," says the singer. "Which is a coincidence, I say, because I have the same rule about women."
