Surprising escorts for music gala stars

Celebrities attending the American Music Awards served up some surprises with their escorts - most notably Pamela Anderson, who sashayed up the red carpet with on-off beau Kid Rock.

The former Baywatch babe, who was on the arm of ex-husband Tommy Lee at the Scary Movie 2 premiere a few weeks ago, sported a revealing LBD and a Farrah Fawcett-style hairdo as she shared the spotlight with her special date. Kid Rock was one of the big winners at Monday night's event, taking home the favourite male pop-rock artist gong.

Meanwhile, for other stars, the show was a family affair. Rod Stewart, who joined performers such as Pink and Sheryl Crowe on the roster of the evening's live acts, brought along girlfriend Penny Lancaster and his five children for the glitzy night out.

Britney Spears also kept it all in the family, arriving accompanied by her brother Ryan. Though the singer was snapped wearing a decidedly scruffy ensemble on a weekend shopping trip, she was back to her glamorous self in an eye-catching silver dress for her latest appearance.

A raunchy performance from the Me Against The Music star launched the music bash, which saw Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Celine Dion and Justin Timberlake take home top awards. R&B singer Luther Vandross, who is currently recovering from a stroke, won a pair of trophies, which were tearfully accepted by his mum on his behalf.
