David Beckham, smartly dressed in a black top hat and tails, received an OBE from the Queen on Thursday as his grandparents and proud wife Victoria looked on.
The former Spice Girl was equally elegant as her footballer husband for the occasion, wearing a knee-length black outfit and an eye-catching designer feather hat.
David, who left Manchester United to play for Real Madrid this past summer, said that the award was the "best" he'd ever received. "It's not just for me but for Manchester United, England, all of my teammates and my family," he said.
Prime Minister Tony Blair, who recommended the star athlete for the honour, had high praise for Becks on this special day. "As captain of the England team, David Beckham has performed with great distinction and has been a great ambassador for the country on and off the field," he said through a spokesperson.
