Celebrity couple David and Victoria Beckham are starring in their first-ever joint TV advert campaign, showing a sitcom slice of life – complete with laugh track – in a Japanese cosmetics commercial.
In the dubbed spot for Tokyo Beauty Centre, the footballer finds his glamorous wife in the kitchen, stirring up some food in a bowl. Suddenly, as if by magic, and accompanied by a puff of smoke, Victoria changes into a number of ultra glam outfits to the thrill of a "live" studio audience.
The ads are only airing in Japan, where they are also shown on giant outdoor screens in central Tokyo. "We are very happy to have David and Victoria in the commercials because they have such a cool image and they are loved by the people of Japan," said a spokesman for the agency behind the campaign.
Posh and Becks, who have individually signed on to a number of Japanese adverts ranging from chocolate to handbags, reportedly earned £2 million for the series of Tokyo Beauty Centre spots. The former Spice Girl already stars in commercials for her own skin cream, called Victoria's Style.
