Two of Britain's most stylish women have claimed that conspirators are out to get them. Pop singer Victoria Beckham and designer Stella McCartney both believe unnamed antagonists are trying to undermine their careers.
"Somebody's got it in for me," declared Victoria. "I don't know who it is or why it is, but it's true. "Speaking in an interview with I-D magazine, the former Spice Girl also said successful women are not valued in the UK.
"You have to bear in mind that in Britain good businessmen are seen as good businessmen and good businesswomen are seen as bitches."
Stella McCartney, meanwhile, believes a whispering campaign is being waged against her. The designer suffered a terrible week after her company posted losses of £4.5 million.
And the negative publicity provoked by her accounts was swiftly followed by more bad press, as model Lizzy Jagger branded her designs "lazy". Brunswick PR, which works for her parent company Gucci, has launched an inquiry into the resulting flood of press attention.
"I was called by one of the Brunswick team who wanted to know how we came upon the story about Stella's business losing money," reveals one fashion reporter. "He asked if we were tipped off or if someone was egging us on. "
