Best-selling author Linda La Plante has become a mother for the first time at the age of 57. The celebrated crime writer says she is overjoyed with baby Lorcan, who she has adopted in the United States. "He is so perfect," enthused the writer. "I finally feel my life is complete."

Starting a family has been a long-running dream for Lynda, who underwent years of fertility treatment without success. Her 18-year marriage to husband Richard came to an end after she suffered four heart-breaking miscarriages.

The writer has now bought a £750,000 waterfront home in Florida, which she and six-month-old Lorcan are sharing with two nannies and hundreds of toys. Lynda has also called in a legal team to help her get through the lengthy American adoption process.

"There's so much paperwork," she revealed. "I have an excellent lawyer and I feel privileged to be in a position where I can afford the best. I can't wait to take him home. Finally my dream has come true."
