Jonathan Ross has proven he is still Britain's best-loved presenter, after winning two gongs at the annual Television and Radio Industries Awards. The rambunctious chat show host was named winner of the best entertainer and best radio personality prizes at the ceremony in London's Grosvenor House.
But Jonathan wasn't the only one with reason to smile, because Ground Force star Alan Titchmarsh also received a special award. "I'm deeply honoured," said the green-fingered presenter. "It's a special year for me because I started work as a gardener 40 years ago."
The surprise loser of the night was Ricky Gervais' hit series The Office, which lost out to Absolutely Fabulous in the comedy section. The residents of Coronation Street meanwhile beat EastEnders to the best soap trophy, while ITN's Mary Nightingale picked up the best newscaster gong.
Among the other celebs attending the glitzy bash were chart-topping twosome The Cheeky Girls and reality TV star "Nasty" Nick Bateman. The yearly prizegiving, which celebrates the UK's most popular broadcasters, is now in its 35th year.
