Thursday's highly-anticpated TV interview with David Beckham's former personal assistant Rebecca Loos, in which she alleges an affair with the star footballer, yielded few new revelations as the PR girl described what she called "mind-blowing" experiences with the Real Madrid player.
Much of the Sky One chat – including details of reported intimate text messages and hotel encounters in the months after Beckham moved to Spain – had already been published in the run-up to the broadcast. The ex-PA, who has earned a reported £800,000 to tell her tale on TV and in print, states: "These are the facts, this is what happened, this is the truth."
The Spanish-born daughter of an English mum and Madrid-based Dutch diplomat father, Rebecca admitted she was "wrong" to become involved with David – and hopes his marriage to pop singer Victoria Beckham survives the infidelity bombshell. "I don't expect any sympathy from (Victoria) at all," she said.
"I think it's bad enough for me to do what I have done without me expecting any words of sympathy. I really hope that they get through it… I in no way intended to break up their marriage, expecially when there are young children involved. I hope they stay together."
In the meantime, it looks like there will be no stalling of the Beckham saga on the airwaves in the near future. British network ITV is looking into developing a script for a Footballers' Wives-style drama, provisionally entitled A Spanish Affair, to tell the story of the alleged encounters. And both ITV and the BBC are battling to snag the Beckhams for an interview. The Beeb hopes the famous couple will speak to Michael Parkinson, while ITV is angling for a chat with Sir Trevor McDonald.
