Though pop star Pink only has one film under her belt – a cameo in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle – she's already scored a rousing review from the director of her next movie, even before shooting has begun.
Pink is set to star in a biopic about the life of Sixties rock star Janis Joplin, who died of a drug overdose aged 27. And director Penelope Spheeris says, based on the chart-topper's screen test, audiences will be surprised at the similarity to the Sixties rock icon.
"It's pretty awesome," says Penelope. "Inevitably the people that look at it say, 'Oh my God, I just got chills.'"
It looks like the movie, The Gospel According To Janis, will have some box office competition, as Oscar winner Renee Zellweger is also slated to headline a biopic of the star – A Little Piece Of My Heart – for release in 2005. "You know what, Janis Joplin was so cool that she deserves to have two movies," says Penelope, adding: "I just think ours might be a little more appealing to the young audience because of Pink."
