Rod Stewart and his girlfriend Penny Lancaster were among the celebs who came along to Sony Radio Academy Awards on Wednesday. The statuesque model was at the Park Lane event to present a gong, but the press pack couldn't help noticing she had a large plaster on her leg. "I got clamped and was running down the road and tripped and fell," explained the model.

The injury didn't stop her looking characteristically glamorous in a ruffled, white satin gown. And her partner wasn't the only rock veteran at the glitzy gathering, because Sir Elton John presented the Gold Award to his old friend Johnny Walker.

The veteran broadcaster, who has recently returned to the airwaves after being treated for cancer, was awarded the prestigious trophy in recognition of his contribution to British radio.

"When I was asked to present this award I didn't hesitate," said Elton. "New artists depend on DJs to play our records, and when Johnny first started on radio he championed me and did me so many favours. I'm in a time of my life when I have to remember these favours. He is a fighter in every sense of the word."

Other winners on the night included Jonathan Ross, who received the prize for best weekly music show. Dannii Minogue meanwhile presented Heart FM DJ Jono Coleman with the gong for Station of the Year.
