Star footballer David Beckham is following in the footsteps of famous Brits from Prime Minister Tony Blair to Mick Jagger, with his animated alter-ego making a one-off appearance on TV cartoon hit The Simpsons.

While he was passed up for a cameo earlier this year for not being famous enough stateside, the athlete's whirlwind PR tour of the US apparently has had the desired effect. With David's popularity now on the rise, producers of the popular programme have had a change of heart.

Meanwhile, in real life, Becks told Spanish radio that, contrary to previous reports, he and his family will be home for the holidays. "I will spend the Christmas holidays in London because I never had Christmas Day off," he said. "Spending Christmas with my children and my wife this year will be very special."

While the specifics of the family's private holiday plans have not been0 revealed, Posh has a very public date with TV audiences in the UK. The pop singer will be going head to head with Her Majesty herself, speaking to the nation in Channel 4's Alternative Queen's Speech at the same time Queen Elizabeth makes her annual address.

Victoria will apparently talk about her eventful year – including the Beckhams' move to Spain – as well as her upcoming solo album. "Whatever she says, it will be great fun," says a source.
