The Hackney Empire in East London has played host to some big names over the years, but the venue was positively flooded with stars on Thursday night, when chart-toppers from both sides of the Atlantic turned out for the inauguration of the UK Hall of Fame.
Pricilla Presley, who jetted in to see her late husband Elvis being honoured, mingled with the likes of Madonna, Robbie Williams and Bono at the glitzy event. The iconic reggae singer Bob Marley was likewise represented by his widow Rita, who made the journey across the pond to pick up his gong.
The Queen of Pop meanwhile found herself on the receiving end of a light-hearted send-up, when her friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney made an appearance in two of her most memorable stage outfits. The veteran singer, who opted for figure-hugging black satin on the night, was nothing if not gracious when her turn came to say a few words.
"It's not just another award," she said. "I think I'm in very good company - I'm honoured to be part of this group." Among the other founding members being inducted were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Michael Jackson and Sir Cliff Richard.
Bono, who was likewise recognised along with his U2 bandmates, was on rather more irreverant form. "I really didn't want to come," he joked. "Only respect for the people who are running the show has me here. I hate the idea of being in the UK Hall Of Fame to be honest with you."
