Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame was among the stars lighting up London's West End this year. The 14-year-old actress helped to flip the switch on the Christmas decorations on Oxford Street.

"I have wanted to do it ever since I was very young and I saw the Spice Girls do it," stated a jubilant Emma, adding: "I love Oxford Street. I have come here most Christmases because I love the lights and all the beautiful displays in all the shops."

Emma was joined by operatic boy band sensation Il Divo who gave an inspired performance for the tens of thousands enthusiastic spectators. Five-time Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave and the medal-winning relay squad added their golden touch to the annual lighting ceremony.

This year's display has a dual theme aimed at promoting both Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban DVD and London's 2012 Olympic bid. In the run-up to Christmas, there will be a nightly Harry Potter-themed light show backed by music from the soundtrack from the latest instalment of the hit film. Special beams of light projecting the Olympic colours will also illuminate London's skyline once a day.

Earlier this month, pop heart-throbs Busted were joined by Samuel L Jackson for the 50th anniversary of the lighting up of Regent Street. Celebrations included special appearances by characters from the Disney film The Incredibles and a rousing set by the popular boy band.

The Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban DVD is out on November 19.
