Some of Britain's favourite showbiz personalities have joined forces to help victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Atomic Kitten singer Jenny Frost teamed up with Strictly Come Dancing star Natasha Kaplinski and former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins to help raise funds for the relief effort.

Members of the public who dialled the emergency hotline to make a donation were surprised to find themselves chatting with one of the three celebs. But the glamorous volunteers were equally taken aback by the generosity of those who called in.

"Taking donations has been a moving experience," said Michelle. "People are obviously really deeply affected by this and really care. If anything can bring a nation together, this can."

Jenny, meanwhile, said she was amazed by the "incredibly generosity" of the public, adding: "It's great to see everyone getting involved and doing what they can."

It wasn't only in the UK that famous faces were doing their bit to support the disaster-struck communities. In Belgium King Albert paid a visit to the government crisis centre to publicise its fundraising effort, and in Thailand Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova made a personal donation of $10,000. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, action movie ace Jackie Chan signed a cheque for $65,000 destined for children's charity Unicef.
