Tuesday night saw some classic pairings as stars of the music and acting world came together at the GQ Awards. Hot comedy duo and Little Britain stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams were cosying up with Robbie Williams, who presented them with the Best Comedian award, while Jerry Hall got a hug from Sir Bob Geldof, after handing the Live 8 campaigner his Outstanding Contribution award.

Also getting the flashbulbs popping at the Royal Opera House gala was 19-year-old Welsh chanteuse Charlotte Church who took home the title of Woman of the Year. The Voice of an Angel turned rock chick, accompanied by rugby beau Gavin Henson and resplendent in a figure-hugging sequinned gown, was described by the magazine's editor as "a great singer, a tabloid giant" who "enjoys life to the full".

"Charlotte Church is our Woman of the Year simply because she is larger than life," explained Dylan Jones, adding: "She might not be to everyone's taste, but the fact that she doesn't care about that makes her even more wonderful."

Also on hand to pick up a gong was US rapper Jay-Z, recipient of the International Man of the Year honour. It's been a busy – and expensive - last few days for the 35-year-old musician. Having splashed out several million dollars on fabulous jewellery to mark fiancée Beyonce Knowles' 24th birthday at the weekend, he then went on, along with fellow rapper Diddy, to pledge $1 million to the hurricane relief efforts.

Other famous names recognised on the night included former Bond star Pierce Brosnan, singer Bryan Ferry, top chef Gordon Ramsay and chart-topping band Coldplay.
