Heather Mills-McCartney met up with America's favourite blonde bombshell at the weekend when Pamela Anderson joined the charity campaigner at the annual People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals Awards gala. And the glamorous pair were far from the only big names supporting the cause, as a roll-call of showbiz stars turned out for the glitzy bash. Pink, Dennis Rodman and Jamie Lee Curtis were also among the famous faces enjoying a feast of vegan cuisine at Paramount Studios on Saturday night. Pammy meanwhile took centre stage as master of ceremonies, with Heather receiving a trophy in recognition of her well-documented humanitarian efforts.
Veteran actor Alec Baldwin, who is also well-known for his beneficent work, was presented with the Linda McCartney Memorial Award, while his fellow silver screen hearth-throb Joaquin Phoenix turned out to collect a gong on behalf of his close friend Casey Affleck.
"He wanted me to acknowledge those people whose only reward is their work – the people who go undercover to bring you and I the startling images of the abuse of animals across the world," said the Gladiator star. "I would like to let you know you work is appreciated and valued. So with this we pay tribute to the nameless and the faceless who speak up for the voiceless."
Many of the A-list guests donated items for a silent auction in support of the Peta Animal Emergency Fund. The organisation is currently working to save the innumerable pets abandoned by their owners amid the chaos wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Among the goodies going under the hammer were clothes designed by Stella McCartney, signed tennis rackets from John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova and a walk-on part in Pammy's TV show Stacked.
