'Corrie' star Bev becomes real-life landlady

Coronation Street barmaid Bev Callard evidently enjoys life behind the bar of the Rovers Return, because she has decided to open a pub in real life. The blonde actress, who is best-known as Weatherfield's long-suffering Liz McDonald, has bought a watering hole called The White Horse in Eccles. The 47-year-old says she and her husband Jon McEwan will be taking a very hands-on approach to the running of their new acquisition. It would appear that Bev isn't quite so practised as her on-screen persona when it comes to pulling pints, though, as she had to go on a course to learn the ins and outs of the trade.

Fans intending to pay a visit to the inn should be warned it will be a bit more upmarket than the Rovers. The new landlady says there will be top class food and entertainment and a strict over-25s policy will apply for non-diners.

"We are going all out to create a menu that will offer something different from the normal pub grub fare," she explained. "Starting with breakfasts from 9.00am, food will be served all day. We want to make Sunday a family day with traditional roast dinners served from noon with the emphasis on making it an enjoyable time for all the family."

Bev's new purchase is located on Gilda Brook Road, not far from the Coronation Street studios. The popular performer won't be spending all her time beneath the grey skies of Weatherfield, though, as she also owns a luxurious home in Marbella, Spain.
