Julio Iglesias' father has passed away just days after he announced he was to become a father for the fourth time at the age of 90. Julio Snr died early on Monday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Madrid. The retired doctor was watching David Beckham and his Real Madrid team-mates take on rival team Osasuna in Madrid's Santiago Bernabeau stadium when he began feeling unwell. He returned home after the match, but in the early hours of the morning he was taken to San Carlos clinic for emergency treatment. According to hospital sources he was resuscitated after suffering a heart attack, but did not manage to fully recover.
On Thursday last week Julio Snr confirmed that his wife of four years, Ronna Kneit, was expecting their second child together. He said he wanted his 42-year-old partner to have something to remember him by. "My wife wanted it and I owed it to her," he explained. "It was an act of generosity towards her. I leave her part of my blood, of my life. I need her so much that I said to her 'here, this is what you wanted for when I am gone'."
He is also survived by two older children, Julio Jr and Carlos, from his first marriage.
