When you've got a cool £400 million stashed away in the bank, you can treat yourself to the odd luxury now and again. And that's exactly what Tiger Woods did when he splashed out on a £23-million estate in Florida to mark his 30th birthday.

After spending two years seeking out the perfect property in the area, the golfing ace and his wife Elin have finally plumped for a ten-acre holding on exclusive Jupiter Island, on the Atlantic coastline 25 miles from Palm Beach. The estate includes four houses and two boat moorings, meaning Tiger will have no problem parking up his 155ft yacht Privacy.

According to local estate agents, however, the fairways champ is likely to want to make his own mark on the place, even going so far as to replace the existing main house, which is just 13 years old. "It is in good condition, but I'd think that someone who paid that much would want to put their own stamp on it," said one, adding, "I'd be surprised if he didn't tear it down."

Whatever Tiger's plans are for his new acquisition, which joins a bulging portfolio of properties in California, Sweden and Wyoming, there is one thing he won't be counting on – a round of golf at the local course. Although he is eligible to play as a guest, the chances of him being able to join the exclusive establishment seem slim. "They don't want anyone famous," said one local about the current membership. "They are as low-key and unassuming as it gets. No stars, fame, publicity or press."

Considering his high profile and status as the world's highest earning sportsman the golfer's chances of being admitted look rather slim. But then at least he can keep his putting up to speed on his home turf - because tucked away among the estate's basketball, volleyball, soccer and tennis courts is his very own putting green.
