A normally quiet ski resort in the Swiss Alps has been playing host to a high-powered gathering of world leaders and celebrities, with the likes of Michael Douglas, Bono and Angelina Jolie considerably boosting star wattage at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos.
Two-time Oscar winner Michael was in town to collect the Forum's Crystal award for outstanding artists who have used their talent to reach out to other cultures. "People seem to let their hair down a little bit and loosen their ties," commented the Fatal Attraction actor. "And there is a lot of give and share that's going on."
Later Michael also found time to let down his silver mane as he bopped the night away to the strains of the New Orleans jazz band who provided the entertainment at the farewell gala.
Boxing legend Mohammed Ali received a tribute recognising his efforts to advance tolerance and cooperation around the world.
The former world heavyweight champion's wife, Yolanda Ali, wept as she spoke on his behalf, urging dialogue between races and religions. Mohammed was too frail to speak on the podium but, ever the showman, he managed to give his trademark punch for the cameras.
Also present was Virgin boss Richard Branson, a first-timer at Davos, who was catching up with Kofi Annan and Bill Gates, among others. With more important issues on the agenda, the action man admitted that there was "no time for skiing, sadly."
