Victoria Beckham proved she is a woman who practises what she preaches when she hit the shops in Madrid this week. The former Spice Girl, who has just revealed her ten golden rules of winning style, was following several of her own tips by showing some flesh but not too much - teaming a waistcoat with check trousers - and topping it all off with her trademark big shades.
Many aspiring starlets have to go through a long period of trial and error before they figure out how to make just the right fashion choices, but the England skipper's wife has now made the learning process a little easier by unveiling her top tips. The glamorous mum-of-three advises that her young pretenders shouldn't cut any corners when it comes to choosing the right accessories. "The right bag, shoes or sunglasses can make or transform the look of an outfit," she explains.
Another fundamental rule when cooking up a red carpet winner is to keep your eye on the finished dish, instead of focusing on just the ingredients. "Rather than looking at a pile of clothes first thing in the morning and wondering what the hell I'm going to throw on, I visualise the overall look I'm going for on that particular day, then pull the pieces together," reveals the 31-year-old. "Doing it that way round will transform the way you look at clothes and the way you dress."
The stylish brunette, who unveiled her guidelines in Glamour magazine, also warns against showing off too much flesh. "It's great to make a statement now and again, but try and stick to a few classic guidelines," she says. "I always think if you're revealing lots of cleavage, you should have your legs hidden. Or if you want to show some leg, wear a jumper dress on top. Don't let it all hang out; it's much sexier to leave a little to the imagination."
The inimitable Mrs Beckham also advises that women should "shop the world", picking up unique items from the various countries they visit. While this last pearl of wisdom may seem a little difficult for those who can't afford the singer's lifestyle – Victoria also admits to spending £100,000 a year on her wardrobe – fans can take comfort in the fact that it's just one of her ten commandments.
