Donald Trump's family grew on Monday morning when wife Melania gave birth to the billionaire property mogul's fifth child, a boy named Barron William. "It's a beautiful baby and she's a beautiful mother," said the 59-year-old star of US TV show The Apprentice.
Their bundle of joy made his debut bright and early at 5am, weighing in at 8lb 7oz. Twenty minutes later his proud dad was announcing the news in a telephone interview on national TV. "I continue to stay young, right? I produce children, I stay young," he declared.
'The Donald', as the colourful businessman is known, is already father to Donald Junior, 28, Ivanka, 24, and Eric, 22, by first wife Ivana Trump and 12-year-old Tiffany, the fruit of his union with Marla Maples.
The new arrival comes just over a year after the couple wed in a lavish Palm Beach ceremony attended by 450 guests. "He came home one day last August, and I told him he'd be a daddy," said 35-year-old model Melania. "And his reaction was... at first he needed to take it in. It was a real surprise."
Despite his previous experience of fatherhood, Donald is unlikely to be a hands-on dad. Before the birth Melania said she couldn't see him walking down Fifth Avenue with a stroller. Neither did the tycoon have plans to be by his wife's side in the delivery room, saying it would be "easier" on her if he wasn't there.
