Big names go for childish fun at Kids' Awards

Funnyman Jack Black was determined to have a seriously good time when he hosted the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday. "Are you ready to have your mind blown apart by the most awesome show in the universe?", demanded the comedian as he took to the stage in a Seventies-style white jumpsuit. And the King Kong star obviously meant business, as a roll call of the showbiz industry's biggest names then joined him for a night of riotous entertainment.

Will Smith had his hands full with kids Jaden and Willow when he arrived for the event, but he soon had another little treasure to contend with after being named winner of the best actor gong. Teenage siren Lindsay Lohan, looking elegant in a pastel Gucci number, likewise had reason to celebrate after winning best actress thanks to the votes of 25 million young fans.

And Cameron Diaz, who once said the Kids' Choice 'burp award' was the best trophy she'd ever received, was on hand to see her hunky boyfriend Justin Timberlake take the same accolade this year. R&B singer Pink meanwhile seemed intent on taking "bling bling" glamour to a whole new level, as she took to the stage to perform her new single with diamond studs in her teeth. Afterwards the chart-topping diva revealed that she accidentally swallowed a stone worth $2,000 while having the gems put in.

Britney Spears' little sister Jamie Lynn, who bears a striking resemblance to her elder sibling, likewise caused quite a stir when she picked up the best TV actress trophy, but the legions of youngsters eagerly waiting to see who would get "slimed" had to wait until the end of the ceremony.

In years gone by American kids have delighted in seeing celebs like Tom Cruise and the Olsen twins get doused in green sludge at the prizegiving and this time around it was the turn of veteran comic Robin Williams, who declared "I feel like I'm a big human snot" after gallons of gooey slop were suddenly emptied over his head. Among the famous faces keeping a safe distance as he offered sticky hugs to all those around were Jessica Alba, Hugh Jackman, Bruce Willis and Hilary Duff.
