Royalty mingled with rock and rap stars at a charity benefit in New York on Tuesday night when a stunning-looking Duchess of York and her elder daughter Beatrice partied with the likes of Lenny Kravitz and Damon Dash in the Big Apple's fashionable Cipriani restaurant.

Celebrities had turned out in force to support Amfar, a charity devoted to AIDS research and education. Fashionista Margherita Missoni, actor Matthew Modine and Lionel Richie were also among the famous faces at the glittering bash.

Beatrice and Fergie, who now spends around two weeks a month in America, wowed onlookers with their choice of frocks. The Duchess, with her smoky eye make-up and chic chignon, looked the picture of sophistication and was immaculate from top to toe in a flattering black asymmetrical gown accessorised with diamond drop-earrings. Her 17-year-old daughter had opted for a vivid blue dress with plunging neckline and a trendy collection of pendants.

The teenager, who celebrates her 18th birthday in August, has accompanied her mum to a number of events on the party circuit and clearly relishes the opportunity to glam up while not at boarding school.

It's ten years since Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew announced their divorce, but the couple have remained close, with the Duchess telling friends that they're "the happiest divorced couple in the world".
