Waiters at the Republic Restaurant in Los Angeles might have been forgiven for feeling a little flustered on Wednesday after finding themselves deluged with A-list beauties. Chart-topper Avril Lavigne met up with Sin City siren Jessica Alba and all round glamour girl Paris Hilton when the venue played host to this year's Hot Hollywood awards.
The Canadian chanteuse, who has been turning heads around Tinseltown ever since she abandoned her Sk8er Boi image in favour of a softer, more feminine look, was every inch the red carpet queen in a strapless black and charcoal dress. And it was small surprise to see the 21-year-old rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars at the glitzy event, as she is making rapid progress with her movie career.
She has recently finished work on the animated adventure Over The Hedge, which sees her teaming up with Bruce Willis and Gary Shandling, and she is also appearing in the ensemble drama Fast Food Nation, which features Ethan Hawke and Greg Kinnear. Fans of the pretty performer needn't worry about her losing touch with her "punk princess" roots, though, as she has just lent her name to a new campaign which is aiming to block the music industry's efforts to stop pop fans downloading their favourite tracks from the internet.
On Wednesday night the Ontario-born star was more concerned with enjoying a night of fun with her silver screen peers, however. Among the other young bombshells setting pulses racing at the exclusive bash were Brittany Murphy, Carmen Electra, Nicky Hilton and Rachel Leigh Cook.
