Kiefer and Sandra lead Canadian hopes for Emmy glory

Two of Canada's hottest stars will see their shows go head to head at the Emmys this August. Kiefer Sutherland's suspense drama series 24 is set to battle it out in the outstanding drama series category with Grey's Anatomy, which stars fellow Canadian Sandra Oh. Other shows in the running for the coveted gong include House, The Sopranos, and The West Wing.

Both actors have also received individual nods. Kiefer for outstanding lead in a drama series, and Sandra - whose hit medical drama focuses more on her character's love life than medicine - is a frontrunner in the outstanding supporting actress category. Also up for a trophy is Keifer's dad, Donald Sutherland, who'll be competing for an outstanding lead actor statue for his miniseries Human Trafficking.

Other Canucks to make the Emmy shortlist are William Shatner and Michael J Fox, who both picked up nods for their roles in the quirky hit drama series Boston Legal. The former Star Trek star received his in the outstanding supporting actor in a drama series category, while Michael got his for a guest spot on the show.

Aside from the host of Canadian acting talent recognised by the Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences there was another local element in the spotlight - Alberta. Miniseries Into the West, which is shot in the province, received a whacking 16 nominations.
