As 24's gun-toting special agent, Kiefer Sutherland always gets his way. So it was only a matter of time before he got his hands on an Emmy, taking home the statuette for best actor after being nominated the last five years running.
In all, the hit show racked up five awards, also winning the Emmy for best drama series - beating front-runner Grey’s Anatomy, which stars Ontario-born actress Sandra Oh.
Kiefer is not the only Emmy winner in his family, though. His father, Donald walked away with the prestigious gong in 1995 when he was named best supporting actor in a miniseries for Citizen X. He also received an Emmy nod this year for his recent role in miniseries Human Trafficking.
"My father is sitting over there," said Kiefer as the screen veteran looked on with pride. "We’re going to have to have dinner together now."
Although Boston Legal star William Shatner went home empty-handed - he was up for the best supporting actor title - the small-screen favourite still cut a dash at the glitzy ceremony, attending with his radiant wife Elizabeth Anderson Martin.
Meanwhile Lost's Evangeline Lilly was on hand for presenting duties. Upbeat despite the lack of nominations for her show, the actress was graciousness itself as she handed over the coveted directing award to fellow Canadian Jon Cassar for his work on 24.
