Raven-haired beauty Mia Kirshner looked every inch a star-in-the-making as she joined the Hollywood power crowd for the world premiere of her latest flick The Black Dahlia at the Venice film festival. The Toronto-born actress, who was voted one of the sexiest women in the world by a US magazine, made a striking impression on the red carpet in a dramatic royal purple gown.
At the screening Mia faced the cameras alongside the mystery flick's other stars, Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett.
The rising talent plays 22-year-old murder victim Elizabeth Short in the movie, which is based on a true story. Her take on the tragic character, whose unsolved case inspired a novel by James Ellroy - also at the premiere - is that she was a young innocent. "I think that she very much wanted to fall in love, and have a very simple life, and be a movie star at the same time," said Mia.
Directed by Brian de Palma, the film has catapulted the 31-year-old into the spotlight after smaller roles in Exotica and Not Another Teen Movie. She has also had small-screen parts in lesbian dramaThe L-Word and Emmy-winning drama 24.
Her latest flick hits North American cinemas on September 15.
