Stretch limousines with blacked-out windows are the preferred mode of transport for most disco divas, but the music industry's hottest young star obviously isn't averse to riding on public transport. Commuters on the New York subway got quite a surprise this week when Beyonce stepped aboard their train as she made her way to a CD signing on the other side of the city.

The performer decided to catch the Big Apple's 'B' line as she was on her way to a promotional event for her new album B'Day. The glamorous singer launched her new disc, which has already taken the US charts by storm, just last week on her 25th birthday.

"We were going through dates for the release and we came across September 4, and I said, 'Wow, that's really crazy, that's my birthday'," she explained. "This album feels like a celebration, so I figured we should put it out on my birthday. I'm excited because the whole album is so empowering and it feels like a big celebration - a big party!"

Fans hoping for news of another celebration - of the matrimonial variety - may have to wait a little longer, though, as the glamorous star says she and her rapper beau Jay Z are in no rush. "It'll happen when it happens," she revealed. "I've grown up with two parents that have been married for 27 years and my sister now has a son, and just to watch them is the most beautiful thing ever."
