The cloudy skies over Toronto threatened stormy weather. In the end all that rained down on the city was the shower of Hollywood heavyweights at the Bobby premiere. The stellar crowd at the film festival's most hotly anticipated screening were led by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
Demi's one-time flame, the film's director and writer, Emilio Estevez attended with his fiancée Sonia Magdevski, fresh from Venice where he picked up a prestigious award for the movie. Also gracing the red carpet were Sharon Stone, William H Macy and Christian Slater. And proving he could roll with the Tinseltown power pack was Vancouver-born Joshua Jackson.
Bobby follows more than two dozen fictional characters as they wander through Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel on the day of Robert F Kennedy's assassination in 1968. Bringing the movie to the silver screen was an exhilarating rollercoaster for the former Bratpacker. He began penning it in 2000 before getting a case of writer's block. The script was finally finished with the encouragement of his brother Charlie Sheen.
Emilio also felt inspired by the spirit of the US senator himself. "He was Mick Jagger and Tom Cruise all rolled into one," says the actor, who made his directorial debut with the feature. "He was so charismatic, he was gorgeous, people loved him - the star of the film is Bobby Kennedy."
