Their comical characters like Vicky Pollard, Dafydd and Lou and Andy have won David Walliams and Matt Lucas millions of fans, and apparently an international celebrity following judging by the turnout for their Little Britain stage show.

A host of UK and jet-setting personalities were among the packed audience for the live act's opening night at London's Hammersmith Apollo. German supermodel Claudia Schiffer arrived with her director husband Matthew Vaughn, while American former Friends actor David Schwimmer also put in a surprise appearance.

Other A-listers in town for an evening of non-stop laughs included Patsy Kensit and Bob Geldof, who attended with his French partner Jeanne Marine.

David and Matt, who met 16 years ago at Bristol University, completed an exhausting tour of the country before bringing their live show to the capital. But neither are planning on slowing down.

"We'll have played to about a million people and done 200 shows by the time we've finished here in London; and then next year we're taking it to Australia," says David. "It's tiring," he admits, "but when you hear people's laughter and applause it energises you and that's a great feeling."
