Paris Hilton's long-running feud with reality TV co-star Nicole Richie has come to an end. The pair famously fell out two years ago, but have told reporters their friendship is back on after they both joined Nicole's dad for a meal in Los Angeles this week.

The reconciliation comes just a few weeks before they being work on a fifth season of their hit show The Simple Life. And it would appear their conversation went on well into the night, as Nicole was seen leaving the hotel heiress' home in West Hollywood early the following morning.

Representatives for the two starlets have been reluctant to say all is forgiven between them, however. "They had a meal last night," confirmed Paris' publicist Elliot Mintz. "It's not my place to say what was discussed or the nature of the meal, but it's a good thing when people have a meal together."

When asked whether the two stars could be described as best friends once again, he remained circumspect. "I wouldn't characterise it that way because I don't know if it was a business or personal discussion," he said. "Let's just watch it unfold."

It was 18 months ago when Paris first spoke openly of the animosity between them, although mystery still surrounds the reason for their quarrel. "It's no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends," she said at the time. "Nicole knows what she did and that's all I'm ever going to say about it."
