Pop music fans were in for a treat on Wednesday night as both Girls Aloud and Take That put in an appearance at the star-studded Vodafone Live Music Awards.
The UK's top girl band was dressed to thrill as its members showed up at the Roundhouse in North London, with a variety of seductive black bustiers and figure-hugging outfits boosting the glamour factor. They were joined on the red carpet by a host of local celebrities, including Sadie Frost and radio DJ Jo Whiley, both of whom had come along to see the awards celebrating live music being handed out.
New dad Mark Owen and his Take That bandmates were among the night's winners. The popular quartet, who are releasing a new single and album next month, won the biggest reception of the night, beating fellow nominees Pink Floyd, The Who and Depeche Mode to scoop the gong for best live return. "We hope to see you again soon back on tour, maybe next year," Mark told fans.
And Robbie Williams' former group are still marveling at the success of their recent comeback tour, which included more than 30 sell-out shows. "It's not often that a band, after ten years, comes back," said Gary Barlow, "Our tour was bigger than any of the tours we've done. We've been amazed by that."
Girls Aloud are also releasing a new album and currently busy promoting their single Something Kinda Ooooh. But for one of them the schedule has been even more hectic. Blonde bombshell Sarah Harding has just completed shooting her first film role in new Brit flick Runners With Cars, which also stars ex-Byker Grove actress Donna Air.
"It's only a short role and I'm really nervous it will end up on the cutting room floor, so I haven't told anyone about it until now," she revealed to a British paper. "I insisted on wearing a brown wig for the role because I didn't want to look like Sarah from Girls Aloud," she added.
