Canadian cover-girl Linda Evangelista has welcomed the baby she always wanted into the world. The proud new mum gave birth to a healthy baby boy in a New York City hospital last Wednesday, her agent confirmed.
It is the first child for the 41-year-old catwalk queen, who was overjoyed when she found out she was expecting. "My baby has given my life a meaning," she said during her pregnancy. And while she's keeping mum about the father's identity, she has revealed her son's name - Augustin James Evangelista.
The little newcomer, whose first name is from the Latin meaning exalted or revered, has already had his first taste of life in the limelight after his famous mum showed off her bump at seven months pregnant on the cover of US style bible Vogue.
Linda, who kept up a daily yoga and exercise routine throughout the nine months, clearly wasn't worried about the changes to her model figure . "I'm not freaked out at all. I embrace it," she said back in July. "I believe I'm doing everything to go through this as smoothly as possible."
It is a happy ending for Linda who heartbreakingly suffered a miscarriage in 1999 when she was six months pregnant with her then boyfriend, French soccer player Fabian Barthez's baby. She described the experience as "the hardest thing I've ever had to go through.”
