Their two-year relationship has had to be conducted long-distance, but nothing was going to stop Prince Harry from being by Chelsy Davy's side as she celebrated her 21st birthday. The devoted royal flew 6,000 miles to Cape Town on Friday to join his Zimbabwean girlfriend and her family and friends at the lavish party.
The fun-loving 22-year-old soldier had clearly pushed the boat out in honour of his first love as he joined 140 other guests at the exclusive Beluga restaurant where Chelsy's parents hosted the Twenties-themed party for their daughter. Harry, who is famously protective of his girlfriend, customized a t-shirt with the words "Spike", one of his nicknames, and "Official Bodyguard of Miss CD" which he donned under a gangster-style pinstripe suit topped off with a fedora.
And his blonde love, who looked stunning in a black and green flapper-style frock complete with feathered headband, was clearly delighted by Harry's efforts to be there for her big day. According to the Daily Mail a friend said Chelsy had made a simple speech in which she turned to her army beau and said: "My darling boy Haz, thank you for coming."
Harry, who is known to have a good rapport with Chelsy's multimillionaire parents Charles and Beverly, was seated alongside them at the bash and also spent the next day with the family for a farewell barbecue before catching his flight back to the UK.
Fortunately for the Eton-educated prince he will soon be seeing much more of his girlfriend. Once she graduates from Cape Town University next month she is apparently all set to move to England to study for a post-graduate degree in politics at Bristol University – just 30 miles from royal residence Highgrove in Gloucestershire.
