In the latest step in their high-profile divorce proceedings, lawyers for Heather Mills are understood to be requesting that the former model's divorce from Paul McCartney be heard in open court. And, according to friends, the ex-Beatle is in favour of a public hearing – seeing it as a chance to defend himself against recent claims made by his estranged wife.
"He will go all the way if needs be. He will go to open court," said a source close to the musician. "He has nothing to be afraid of. But he will maintain a dignified silence for the moment. At the end of the day there is a little girl caught in the middle of this."
The couple, who were married for four years have a two-year-old daughter together, Beatrice.
If an application is lodged and goes ahead, details of one of the most bitter and headline-making splits will be played out in public.
While Sir Paul has to date refused to comment on leaked allegations made by Heather, he is reportedly "incandescent with rage" and intends to contest them "vigorously".
According to legal experts the fact that details of the rupture are out in the open could lead to Heather losing millions in the settlement, as there is no reason for her estranged husband to agree a more generous settlement in exchange for her discretion.
Heather's lawyers are apparently applying for the case to be heard next month.
