A "deeply sorry" Chris Tarrant has been doing all he can to get back on good terms with Ingrid, his wife of 15 years. According to recent reports, the TV star presented his spouse with a Tiffany watch on her 52nd birthday and is committed to making the run-up to their divorce as smooth as possible.

The lavish gift, worth £1,225, is just the tip of the iceberg. The 60-year-old small screen star has also offered Norwegian-born Ingrid their Surrey mansion and is prepared to give her a "very reasonable" amount of his multi-million pound fortune. His estranged wife is, however, reportedly still "seething" over revelations that her husband had a long-term affair with teacher Fiona McKechnie.

"He's very keen to get back on proper speaking terms with Ingrid," revealed a friend. "He wants divorce proceedings to go smoothly and is prepared to bend over backwards to be fair."

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire presenter is said to be under enormous strain, and suffered a dramatic health scare during a fishing trip in Scotland last week. He was taken to hospital suffering heart palpitations but was released after having been given the all-clear.
