As any blushing bride-to-be knows, wedding preparations take a lot of organising. And when you have as many celebrity friends as Katie Holmes and Liz Hurley the details tend to be more lavish than most. It's no surprise, then, to hear that the photogenic duo already have their perfectly laid plans in place.

Katie, who gave birth to her daughter Suri six months ago, is back on svelte form in time for her upcoming nuptials, which her spokesperson confirmed will take place on November 18 in Italy. And the soon-to-be Mrs Cruise is reported to have gone to town on her wedding dress, hiring top designer Giorgio Armani to come up with something "sheer and floaty" for the ceremony.

"I can confirm that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have asked Giorgio Armani to design their official wedding attire for their upcoming marriage," said a spokesman for the luxury label. And according to US fashion bible Women's Wear Daily, Giorgio has come up with not one but five different outfits for Katie to wear during the wedding weekend.

The Dawson's Creek actress, like her fiancé, has long been a fan of the Italian clothing brand which both wore to the Bafta awards last November. "Katie's charm comes from her always-bright personality," Giorgio enthuses. "She combines wonderful innocence with a subtle but strong sophistication in the way she dresses."

Liz, however, is set to outdo Katie when it comes to the number of wedding ensembles she's preparing to wear. She has whittled down her choice to 13, likely to include Versace and Valentino, because she doesn't want to offend any of her designer pals, and is expected to make a succession of wardrobe changes during her nuptials in both Gloucestershire and India.

The 41-year-old actress and beachwear designer, who has a five-year-old son by former flame Steve Bing, is planning lavish celebrations for her marriage to Indian businessman Arun Nayer. The British ceremony is reported to be taking place at Barnsley House hotel, close to the model's 400-acre home in Ampney Knowle near Cirencester in February next year. Guests including Elton John and the Beckhams will tuck into champagne and canapes at the Grade II listed house, followed by a sumptuous wedding breakfast in a marquee.

But it is the three-day celebrations in India that will provide a spectacular finale. "I love the pomp and ceremony associated with Indian weddings," Elizabeth has said. The second wedding will take place at the opulent Devi Garh boutique hotel, a former Maharaja's palace in Udaipur, where the couple got engaged on November 4 last year. According to sources the groom will arrive on a white horse while Liz might make her entrance on a painted elephant.
