Victoria Beckham has confessed she is secretly hoping the recent rumours that her husband is to be knighted turn out to be true. The glamorous 32-year-old, who was treated to a rapturous welcome from thousands of excited fans when she turned out for a book signing in London on Monday, said she would love to be known as 'Lady Beckham'.
"Can you imagine? Oh, I'd love that," she said. "That would be quite fabulous. It's just so camp - it's wonderful, isn't it?"
The mum-of-three was speaking in a radio interview to promote her new fashion title That Extra Half Inch when reporter Jo Wiley asked how she felt about the reports her husband would soon become Sir David. "Something like that goes in the paper and you think that would be quite amazing," she continued. "I think David's done a lot for charity - he was heavily involved with the Olympic bid and has given a lot to his country with the football, too. I think he deserves it."
In recent months the Real Madrid star has faced some disappointments on the pitch, with new England boss Steve McLaren dropping him from the national team. But his pretty wife says there has also been a silver lining, as they are enjoying the chance to spend more time together and also to meet new people.
"He has his friends in football, but to be honest with you, over the years he's been so busy with football and also playing for England you don't actually get much time to socialise," she explained. "For the first we're getting a little bit more time, so we've got to find him some mates."
If the success of Victoria's fashion bible is anything to go by, the Beckhams will have little trouble in winning new friends. "This is completely unprecedented," said a representative for Selfridges, where sales records were broken at Monday's event. "The public response has been unbelievable and demand for the book is huge."
