It looks like boyband Take That are back for good. The popular quartet, whose comeback album Beautiful World has joined their hit single Patience at the top of the charts, showed they have an enviable celebrity following in Britain as a roll call of homegrown stars turned out to congratulate them at the weekend.
Beautiful operatic star Katherine Jenkins joined an eclectic crowd of footballers' wives and soap stars at An Audience With Take That Live on Saturday night. Coleen Mcloughlin and Theo Walcott's girlfriend Melanie Slade both made an impression on the red carpet in stunning cocktail dresses, while pop princess Rachel Stevens, Vic Reeves' wife Nancy Sorrell and EastEnders star Jessie Wallace also donned their finery for the ITV1 special.
They later joined the boys - Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange - for a party at the London Studios on the South Bank. And the enthusiasm of the ladies in the audience was not lost on 36-year-old Jason. "The female attention is great," he said. "It's better this time round."
Meanwhile their phenomenal success has been gradually sinking in for Gary, who turned up with his wife Dawn. "I never dreamt this could happen," he said. "If you'd told me this 14 months ago, that we'd have a number one album and single in the same week, I'd never have believed you. It's like a fairytale. Totally brilliant."
